13th - 15th april Can Tho, Vietnam

Crossing the border to Vietnam was quite easy and a relaxed procedure, but travelling from Chau Doc to Can Tho with the local bus was an adventure. We took the cheapest option to travelling Vietnam for the first time and definitely we got what we paid for. There is no right or left lane. They drive on the side they want or just in the middle of the lanes. If someone is disturbing they just use the horn. The horn is also used as an extension of the brakes. Besides rthat everytime the minibus would stop which was quite often the indicators were syncronised with a circus melody. They driver stopped every 10 minutes to ask the people on the streetside if they would need a ride, to pick up or to leave people.
On top of that the people managing the bus were smuggling cigarettes. Two ladies and one man were hidding the cigarettes under their clothing. That means that the hunchback of the lady was square and not round. The xxs sized guy was hiding the cigarettes under the xxxl clothing. And the other old lady was hidding the cigarettes in her elephant bootleg trousers. Hilarious and unique, but kind of rare if you are in a foreign country where almost no one speaks your language.

We had a 3.5 hour ride with hellraiser at the wheel and the smuggling crew - this was really enough for the day. In Can Tho we found as nice hotel :). Good night.
